PointsWill Brazil elect a president outright in the first round on 4 October?
Brazil holds the first round of its presidential election on 4 October 2026, with a run-off scheduled for 25 October if nobody wins outright. Under Brazil's constitution a candidate is elected in the first round only by taking more than half of all valid votes, which excludes blank and spoiled ballots. No Brazilian presidential election since 1998 has been settled in the first round.
Resolves: 10 October 2026 • Source: Superior Electoral Court of Brazil official results (tse.jus.br)
Rule: Resolves YES if a candidate is declared elected President of Brazil in the first round held on 4 October 2026, having taken more than 50 per cent of valid votes in the official results published by Brazil's Superior Electoral Court. Blank and spoiled ballots are excluded from valid votes, as Brazilian law requires. A run-off being scheduled or held on 25 October 2026 resolves NO, and the result of that run-off does not matter. If the first round is postponed, or the Superior Electoral Court has published no first-round result by 10 October 2026, the poll is voided and points are returned.
