Will NEPRA approve an electricity tariff increase of at least Rs1 per unit before 31 October 2026?

NEPRA has reserved its decision on a request to raise the power tariff by Rs1.34 per unit for three months as a quarterly adjustment, worth roughly Rs34 billion and driven by capacity charges. The regulator held its hearing in mid-August 2026 and has not yet issued a determination. Consumers already pay a stack of surcharges on top of the base tariff, so any further increase feeds straight into monthly bills. Resolves: 31 October 2026 • Source: NEPRA determination (nepra.org.pk) Rule: Resolves YES if NEPRA issues a determination dated between 21 August and 31 October 2026 inclusive that raises the applicable electricity tariff for any consumer category of the ex-WAPDA distribution companies by at least Rs1.00 per unit, as published on nepra.org.pk. A quarterly tariff adjustment, a surcharge, and a base-tariff increase all count. Monthly fuel charge adjustments, which move automatically with generation costs in both directions, do not count, and neither does any determination dated before 21 August 2026. A request that is rejected, withdrawn, still reserved on 31 October, or granted at less than Rs1.00 per unit all resolve NO.
