PointsWill the IMF approve at least $1 billion more for Pakistan before the end of 2026?
Pakistan has been operating under an IMF programme that releases funds in tranches tied to periodic reviews of the country's fiscal and reform targets, covering areas like tax collection, energy sector losses and structural reforms. Each review requires IMF staff and Pakistani authorities to agree that targets were met before the Executive Board formally approves disbursement, and that process has sometimes taken longer than initially expected.
Resolves: 31 December 2026 • Source: IMF press releases (imf.org)
Rule: Resolves YES if IMF press releases show the Executive Board completing one or more reviews of Pakistan's programmes between 14 August and 31 December 2026 inclusive, making a combined total of US$1.0 billion or more immediately available to Pakistan. A staff-level agreement, a mission statement, or an announcement that talks have concluded successfully does not count on its own — only Board approval does. Money from other lenders such as the World Bank or ADB does not count.
